There were plenty of shots of Timothee's butt - Armie not so much. The pan away scene bothered me because it wasn't in the dark - it felt deliberate and shameful. The sex scene between Elio and the girl was much more graphic. The biggest beef I had was the director's decision not to let Oliver eat the peach. It was the ultimate metaphor for their relationship. If it made someone who was seeing the film feel squeamish then they shouldn't been there in the first place. I agree Ivory needs to let the nudity issue go and yes I respect an actor's right not to do nudity - but he is pointing out the double standard that exists in Hollywood, plus I think he likes taking digs at how repressed he thinks Americans are on sex and nudity in general. Also want to point out that studies have proven the states with the most porn consumers are red states which just happen to be more religious.
I do 100% agree that it was wrong to pan away during the sex. Luca could have shot it under the covers or in silhouette it could have been very sexy and true to the scene in the book. While Ivory keeps whining about the nudity, Luca keeps mentioning Elio having sex with Mariza. I also think it the book Elo comes off more bisexual or pansexual than gay but Luca downplayed that outside of the sex scenes which wouldn't be such a big deal if he didn't keep mentioning it and keep saying Elio will still be involved with her in the sequel (which is not in the book).
So, even though Luca's gay...he seems kind of turned on by Elio with girls. Go figure.
As for the peach, I know at least two people who thought Oliver did eat the peach but I also have seen a lot of people who think he didn't. Timothee said there were two takes, and one where Oliver clearly ate the peach and one where he didn't and Luca used the better take, acting wise. But I agree that it should have been clearer because it is an important metaphor.
