I have heard that the scene with Olyvar and Loras was not a fluke. They actually have a non-book based storyline this season. I'm just excited that we might see Arya tonight, since her story remains one of the strongest. The first 4 episodes leaked online last week and I watched all 4. Arya is in 2, 3 and 4 a lot. Plus there's a lot of sexy John Snow.

I watched 2 this afternoon! I've decided if I had to live in the GoT universe I would want to live in the Free City of Braavos. Screw Westeros! Too unstable. I love that storyline.
I didn't keep up with the books, but I did read some of them.
One of my best friends and I have a running argument as to which incest-y marriage Jon will wind up in.
I think since Dany can't have children, Jon will end up marrying his sister who is really his cousin (I'm on team L+R=J), Sansa. But my friend insists Jon will end up married to his aunt Dany. Of course, since the Targaryens practice both incest and polygamy (hello Egypt!) - he could marry both of them.
It's hard to ship in the GoT universe though. We've all seen what has happened to the most romantic couples on the show. Loved Rob/Talisa (oops). Jon/Ygritte (saw that coming) and of course Renly/Loras (shadow!).

I'm on team L+R=J too. It's really telegraphed and anviled in the books and the above video explains it really well. I love your idea that Jon ends up with Dany and Sansa, talk about dangerous.
I've seen some of the leaked episodes and there's a rather shocking turn in Sansa's story that's not from the books.

There's not a lot of happily ever after on GOT. I liked Khaleesi Daenerys and Drogo season 1. And speaking of her she is without a doubt the best ruler of them all. She's knows how to get her people behind her. I'm disappointed Bran will not be in season 5 at all. He's one of my favorite characters.

Yes, and I get a sense that Bran is hugely, hugely important to the story. My guess is that he will have a vision that reveals Jon's true parentage and at some point they will have to go on a quest to find the one living man who was at Lyanna's deathbed with Ned Stark. I was kind of hoping that Tyrion/Sansa would settle into a practical/friendship marriage but that didn't happen. But the scene in tonight's episode with Ser Bronn and his arranged bride Lollys looks promising in terms of two people in an arranged marriage who might get along. She's obviously a kid to him, but he seems to like her and like what she represents for him. Daenerys is the one character that I think has to survive to the end, the most relevant and most important besides Jon. She's gaining the chops to rule, that's for sure. I actually cried during the red wedding, even though I knew Robb and Talisa were doomed. That was a big improvement over the books, because you really knew why he married her.

I've noticed a lot of shipping for Brienne and Jaimie, and I like both the characters but I prefer that to be a friendship where she inspires him to goodness. She reads queer to me (more so than Arya) and I don't need her to be revealed to be a lesbian, but I don't want her queerness undermined because I think it's a strong, positive element and how many super heroic, honorable lesbians do we get that aren't a male fantasy? There is a scene later in the season
[MILD SPOILER AHEAD]
where she explains that she was not in love with Renly, as some assume.

Tonight's episode (after watching a second time) showed me how they are setting up Jon Snow (Ice) and Daenerys (Fire) as Diads of each other. Jon was in a position to give mercy last week when Stannis executed Mance, but Daenerys got her Stannis on and executed someone when mercy would have been the wise path. She feared looking weak, but mercy would have made her look strong.
Stannis killing Mance was a foolish move, because I think he thought Jon could and would control the Wildings. Bad assumption.

I think there's been a lot of solid writing on how genderized the violence is on Game of Thrones. There's a lot more gender-specific violence toward women on the show and it's shown more explicitly and often added and embellished from the books. It is true that Theon faces similar treatment, but there's something very alarming at some of the show's additions. I still enjoy the show, but there is a fine line between showing violence's horror and fetishizing it.

I have a friend who ships Jon/Daenerys hard. I told him I thought Jon would marry both his aunt Daenerys and his sister/cousin Sansa and have children with Sansa. He said that he believes the theory that Tyrion is Daenerys's half brother and that his marriage to Sansa will stand and the heir to the iron throne will be his and Sansa's child.
Remember, the Targaryens are Valarian - the world's answer to Egyptians, so plural marriage and incestuous marriage is okay.

Anybody else watch Nashville? I watched just enough of the first two seasons to keep up with storylines, but this season I've really gotten into it. I love Connie Britton (from Friday night Lights and the first American Horror Story) so her being on it really peaked my interest. Plus, it has some really hot guys - the actor who plays Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and I swear the actors who play Jeff (Oliver Hudson) and Deacon (Charles Esten) look just alike - Oliver Hudson is Goldie Hawn's son and Kate Hudson's brother. The main reason I didn't want to get invested in the show is because it has a closeted gay man, Will, played wonderfully by Chris Carmack and I just did not want to deal with another coming out story. Nashville's Will has just about as many issues as our beloved Will Horton! But, with the addition of the very talented Kyle Dean Massey (Kevin) as a love interest for Will he may slowly come out of the closet. Of course, as homophobic as country music is (even though it is slowly changing - baby steps), that will make for a tough storyline for Will and Kevin.

So nice to see another Jonathan Jackson admirer. I've had Nashville on my "shows to get to" list for months, but so far just not enough hours in the day. I adored him on GH and I've watched a few movies and shows he's done since. I've always thought he was the most talented young actor I'd ever seen on soaps. Chandler Massey reminded me of him so much -- the easy access to emotions (and tears), the wonderful chemistry with older co-stars and the ability to more than hold his own with more experienced actors.
