We need more of these type of tweets and messages to counter the hateful rhetoric of Donald Trump and those like him.....

This thread is fine by me...
I will say this. I'm a light-eyed, light-skinned woman of Polish ancestry (as well as Wasp on my mom's side) and when I was in my twenties, we found out that my grand-grandmother was a Tatar, which are Polish Muslims, who fled Poland as the Russians were marching in. She went through Ellis Island.
Anyway, a couple years later I was in Finland, and a man from the Ukraine asked me out of the blue if I was a Muslim, because I looked like I was one. Nobody had every said that to me before, but then very few in America know about the Lipka Tatars (a Muslim population in Poland, Lithuania and the Ukraine. I didn't know until I found out I was descended from one.
I have no idea if my great-grandmother told people what religion she was when she came through Ellis Island, but I've thought of trying to find the records.
Anyway, I wasn't raised religious, and in addition to her my ancestors come in Catholic, Congregational (read: Puritan), Moravian, Lutheran and Quaker that I know of. But I always think that when they are talking about banning Muslims, they certainly aren't talking about people who look like me.

Many of you have probably seen this, what with its 8 million plus hits, but it's amazing. Some people were on a Gorilla watching Safari in Uganda and a Gorilla family came to visit their camp, and they seem to think one of the men, who is wearing a black shirt, is a gorilla and try and get to know him.

I think we've all heard the terrible news about David Bowie. I've been a lifelong fan, and I will miss his presence in the world deeply. I'm glad I still have his music.
I had heard that he was ill, but with all the publicity surrounding his new album, I was naive and thought he had recovered.

I have most of his music from the 70's and 80's. I'm going to check out his new album on iTunes later today. I will miss him so much!

I posted on twitter and its true - the first "grown up" album I asked for - I think my birthday was David Bowie's "Let's Dance" - and I listened to it until I wore it out, I think. Also, one of my earliest memories is of seeing that famous footage of Bowie as Ziggy Stardust on TV. And I don't even want to tell you the thoughts I had about his character in The Dark Crystal. Wow!

My first memory is androgynous Bowie on a late night music show (Friday nights) in the early '70's called The Midnight Special that was hosted by Wolfman Jack! My first Bowie album was Fame because I'd heard Golden Years on the radio and loved it. When I first heard Modern Love in the '80's I couldn't believe it was Bowie! Obviously Let's Dance is one of the best albums from the '80's! James' favorite song of his is Life on Mars!
