Hello all - I'm sorry to meet you all under these sad circumstances.
Over the last few years I've grown to be a fan of the show generally, but more specifically of Will, Sonny and everyone in their orbits. I've known about Days for a long time of course (it's a classic after all) even though my mom was more a fan of AW and GH. Incidentally Soapdish is one of my favorite comedies so I do have a soft spot for the genre.
By a strange coincidence (and the exact timeline's a bit foggy), I became aware of speculation of a future gay wedding storyline on a soap, and started to watch while catching up on Will's coming out storyline and then his relationship with Sonny via online clips. I say coincidence because it was around that time that I was having to struggle with my own coming out (although at a quite different stage in life). Wow that got personal fast.
The actors often said in interviews that they get fanmail about people who credit them with being helpful under similar circumstances, and I can say it's absolutely true. Being able to see characters who are not just the punchline to a joke, the entertainment factor, the supporting character who's always single, and more importantly are not necessarily stereotypical, is extremely important and the writers, production crew and actors brought that to the screen in a sensitive and beautiful manner. A far cry from Jack Tripper (Three's Company), and all those tragic characters in that Celluloid Closet documentary that were all that was available when I was Will's age. And no internet back then either.
After catching up with the storyline and then watching pretty much daily, I found a few fanfictions online, and found them entertaining and thought provoking in many cases. Headscratching in a few cases lol. Then found a few more. Then fanfiction became the only real option as the show went the way they did... It"s through reading some of those more recent fictions that I found this lovely little forum. Lovely because healthy and intelligent discussion is welcome, but bigotry is not (some of the discussion on other soap forums or even IMDB is not for the patient or faint of heart I tel ya). Maybe #hatewins but not here. Thank you all for this.
Most of my reviews on AO3 and fanfiction.net are under the name Paul (not Narita), and I also posted a few comments on Michael Fairman's site as Sad in Salem. Obviously not a fan of recent events, or even of the slow character assassination that occurred, probably over the last year or so. Good thing there are fics that continue to be written, that do the characters justice. Maybe one day I'll try my hand at it too.
Anyway, before I need to break this down into chapters, I'll just say thanks for putting this forum together, posting fics and pics and commentary, and believing in our boy's right to being happy and loved, in whichever reality and pairing you prefer.
Welcome! We're so happy you found us.

Thank you all for the welcome ! Love your Avi btw Thanks, the New Year's resolution is one of my favorite scenes, because of its simplicity and how they played it on screen. One of those "slice of everyday life" scenes that also spoke volumes, as the message was "being with you was all I wanted all year". I was going to use a screen grab of the original tin can but thought this one was even better . And yes it's also the explanation behind my username (with a nod to Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz of course).

It's one of my favourite scenes ever! Funny, when Chandler was asked the "what was your favourite scene with Freddie?" question in his Afterbuzz interview, he said this!

I always fanwanked that Sonny wanted another child..His biological child..It would have been a source of conflict, if Will did not want a second child at this time, especially if his career was starting to take off....It would be just like Sonny to already have a surrogate in mind, without consulting Will, ready to be inseminated..There could have even been a cute scene with Wilson, with Will turning Sonny on, in order to get a sample...Sigh!

I like your fanwank wilson4ever! And you know what? I too thought that Sonny wishing for another child (his biologically) was a good possibility.

In a galaxy a long time ago... I actually thought this would be WilSon's next big storyline - having another child with Sonny as the biological father with a lot of soapy complications, of course! (sigh) I guess the child turned out to be Paul.

... I am so very thrilled to discover that Guy is doing his Athens marathon to help people with AIDS on the VERY DAY of the anniversary of that show that didn't want him. That made me laugh out loud and makes me so grateful because he has given me a way to celebrate the brilliance that is Will Horton by giving me the opportunity to back him doing something grand and important *and* relevant to the character. That day would have sucked so bad, but now I can celebrate and laugh too! For me, it gives something of a happy ending to the whole affair. It made me think : Goodness Gets The Last Laugh! Wow! An unbeatable thing to do on that day! Guy has shown such utter class and unbelievable good grace and humour throughout this fiasco. RESPECT to the man! It still infuriates that Ken Corday gave $1000 to Guy's run in August, as though that would make up for the blatant homophobia in the show's new writing. But you are so right! I think Guy raised all this money and this publicity in the best way he knew how to give back to the gay community and I would love to think he was trying in his own gracious way to make up for the hurt he knew Will's death would cause. He is a beautiful soul, and I hope dearly that he gets a much better job and leaves the show far behind him as he moves on to much better things. I'll be cheering him on and trying my best not to think about the dumb show that didn't appreciate his talent or his fans. The great thing is that fans gave *way* more than the Cordays. So we get the last laugh! Not only did we together give way more than the Cordays, there was at least one individual fan who gave substantially more than the Cordays did - and they have my gratitude for doing so, for they demonstrated in no uncertain terms that we the fans appreciate Guy *way* more than that show's showrunner!

Watching the 53rd anniversary episode, with Frances Reid thanking the fans, made me think it would be an opportune moment to thank sunnyways for keeping this forum going! Cheers!
